Martell rewards curious taste explorers with a night of cognac rediscovery

Martell received overwhelming response from Malaysian cognac lovers for their Be Curious event which was held on 18 May. 30 taste explorers received their invitations to attend Martell’s Be Curious gathering at HYDE at 53M, where they were welcomed by brand ambassador Pierre Boyer.

 

The theme of the night is apt as Martell is a brand that never ceases to reinvent itself, exploring unknown taste territories, and pushing the boundaries of cognac making. In one of their first few ground events that night, the cognac house wants to encourage participants to be curious and challenge the types of flavours they can create with the spirit, as well as their personal favourite ingredients.
Welcome drinks were served before the event started. Participants had a chance to try two innovative cognac cocktails: the Martell Intense Heat Vieux Carré; or the Martell La Rose Emilie. Both cocktails were crafted by resident mixologist Jason Julian, and are exclusively served in HYDE at 53M only.

The Martell Intense Heat Vieux Carré is made with Martell Intense Heat as the base. The cognac, which was aged in intensely burnt oak barrels, is mixed with some Red Vermouth, Dom Benedictine, a dash of Peychaud’s Bitters, and Angostura bitters. The cocktail is served with a piece of dark chocolate, which complements its smoky and candied taste.

Those who prefer fruity cocktails will like the Martell La Rose Emilie. Made with Martell V.S.O.P. as the base, the liquor is then paired with French rose vanilla tea, peach puree, lemon juice, and egg white. Served with crushed rose petals on on a bed of foam, the cocktail has a light cognac taste, with a hint of peach in the after taste.

Pierre started the night with a brief history of the House of Martell – from its early days under Jean Martell in 1715, to the creation of the V.S.O.P. in 1831, and to finally becoming one of the oldest and most prestigious cognac houses in the world. Participants were then allowed to sample the Martell V.S.O.P., the iconic Martell Cordon Bleu, and finally the Martell Intense Heat: from a soft and mellow taste to a full-bodied attack on the senses.

Before the night ended, participants were invited to join Jason Julian behind the bar to try their hand at making some classic cognac cocktails: the Sidecar and the Mint Julep. In the spirit of Be Curious, taste explorers also got the chance to add a personal twist to the cocktails, making it uniquely their own.

The curiosity of 30 Malaysian taste explorers ended with a rewarding night of rediscovery and adventure with the House of Martell, leaving them wanting for more.
